Hello and welcome to another edition of Inside The Newsroom, home to more journalism opportunities than any other newsletter in the world.
Nothing changes if nothing changes. Aside from the exquisite wordplay, this phrase highlights a circular truth about change. Now that our move from Substack to Ghost is complete, I've been thinking about the wisdom hidden in those five words.
February can often feel the same. The new year no longer feels new. Resolutions lose their momentum and begin to fade. We slip back into the same routines, the same inbox, the same "I'll do it later" attitude.
It’s easy to assume that because nothing’s different on the surface, nothing can be. We didn’t move to Ghost for the sake of it. We moved because we wanted room to become the best that we can be. What lands in your inbox from us twice a week won't appear all that different to start, but over the next few months you'll begin to see a lot of difference.
You might be in a similar moment: same job, same organization, same goal. If you feel like you need to change it up but don’t know where or how to start, that is completely okay. This doesn't even have to be a demand you put on yourself to rip up the script and change for the sake of it. Instead it is a gentle observation that sometimes it only takes a minor change to realign with where you want to go. Nothing changes if nothing changes.
