NEW: Journalism Tools
Our Journalism Tools now have a permanent home
Hello and welcome to a special edition of Inside The Newsroom, home to more journalism opportunities than any other newsletter in the world.
If you've been reading this newsletter for a while, you'll have seen the Journalism Tools of the Week section near the end of our weekly emails. Well, now they have a permanent home with their own section on our opportunities board.
As artificial intelligence continues to make inroads into everything we do, we didn't want to just add any new tool. Instead, we've prioritized tools that genuinely make the lives of journalists easier, without compromising our standards.
What they are? Around 40 tools to start — from writing and editing, research and fact-checking, transcription, video, maps, data, outreach, automation, SEO, newsletters. Each listing includes a short description, how one might use it, pricing, and who it's best for. We are not endorsing every product as gospel — some require a human in the loop.
Why? Because the jobs and fellowships in this email are only half the job. The other half is the unglamorous stack: recording the interview, checking the clip, finding the email, keeping the portfolio alive, not losing the PDF. You do not have a spare afternoon to trial every new model. Our toolbox aims to act as a shortcut with judgment attached, and a place to put the weekly pick so it doesn't vanish into the archive.
What we'll do each week? One tool stays in this newsletter, same place as always: what it does, why it matters, how to start. Behind the scenes we'll add newly vetted tools to the catalog, kill dead links, and update pricing when it changes. If a reader replies with something they actually use, it goes in the queue. We will not flood you with five "must-try" apps. One honest recommendation beats a pile of logos.
As with everything in our hub of resources, our intention behind this is to save you time, because time is the most valuable currency we have. So with that, we hope you find our database's new addition useful, and as always, we're open to feedback on how to improve it, if we've let a rogue tool through the net, or if we've missed the next big thing.
If you are already a paid subscriber, you can find the Toolbox on your job board link on the 'Journalism Toolbox' tab.
If you are free subscriber and want to access the journalism tools and our entire database — 1,000+ journalism jobs and internships; 1,000+ evergreen freelance pitchcalls; 100+ fellowships, events and awards; 14,000 media salary records, you can try-before-you-buy with a free two-week trial by hitting the button below.
