Hello and welcome to another edition of Inside The Newsroom, home to more journalism opportunities than any other newsletter in the world.
I hope everybody has had a great week so far! Before we get to this week's newsletter and teasers, I want to quickly plug the Q&A we did last week with the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, and how their Executive Program in News Innovation and Leadership is propelling its students and alumni to some of the top leadership roles in the industry. If you're interested in re-tooling for the AI era, take a look at last week's Q&A and reach out if you have any questions.
Anyway, to this week's newsletter and today I want to talk a little about belief, and how it matters more than ever in this industry, and in life as a whole.
When the pace is relentless, the news cycle is noisy, and opportunities feel competitive, it’s easy to slip into a mode of doubt. But one of the biggest differences between people who grow and people who stall is simple: they keep telling themselves they can do it, sometimes even before they have material proof.
Progress in journalism rarely happens in one big leap. It comes from backing yourself in hundreds and thousands of small moments — sending countless pitches, applying for dozens of new roles, learning challenging new skills, starting adventurous projects, and following up again and again when it's easier to just accept silence. Staying positive is not about pretending things are easy; it’s about deciding that setbacks are part of the path, not the end of it.
If you keep believing, keep learning, and above all keep showing up, you will eventually get to the place you're aiming for. This isn't pie in the sky, it's tried and tested. Maybe not on your original timeline, maybe not in the exact form you planned, but you arrive stronger, sharper, and more ready than when you started.
So this week, let this be your reminder: trust your process, back your ambition, and keep moving. You can do more than you think.
